Ambassador Barbier arrives in South Africa
Following the completion of Ambassador Jacques Lapouge’s tour of duty to South Africa, Ambassador Elisabeth Barbier has arrived to succeed him as France’s envoy to South Africa. Madame Barbier is an experienced diplomat who has already served in South Africa twice, first as a first secretary in Pretoria (1982 – 1986) and then as Consul General in Johannesburg (1994-1998).
Previously Madame Barbier was Director General for Africa and the Indian Ocean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris and, before, ambassador to Kenya.
Ambassador Barbier will be in Cape Town most of February in the context of the opening of the parliamentary session and will be back in Pretoria beginning of march .
