Beaujolais Nouveau event in Johannesburg [fr]
Every year, on the third Thursday of November, the people of France and fellow wine lovers all over the world celebrate the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais nouveau is an "early-to-market wine" that is produced on vineyards of Beaujolais in the Rhône-Alpes area. Its marketing is authorized right at the end of the vinification process. For wine producers, this event marks the conclusion of a year’s work.
In South Africa this event also marks the final event of the year for the France South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) and provides a chance for its members to reflect on a successful and busy year. This year’s event was hosted at the Zulu Nyala country manor and was made possible by the generous contributions of many sponsors. Despite a Highveld storm delaying the start the evening was a roaring success.
Ambassador Barbier gave a vote of thanks at the event and took the opportunity to highlight the many successes of 2013 for France South Africa relations, including the State Visit by President Hollande in October which saw several new business deals and partnerships being formalised and existing relationships expanded and deepened.
The star of the evening was of course the wine itself, which went down well with the guests and was accompanied very well by a selection of French cheeses and meats, followed by dessert of lemon meringue and apple tartlets.
