Chef Ayanda Khumalo was born and raised in Kwa- Zulu natal province in South Africa, and he was fascinated by his mother’s creativity in the kitchen, he graduated with a food production management and culinary arts from Birnam Business College in be his very first job ala-carte restaurant in Sandton sun and towers intercontinental Johannesburg.
During his young age, was very eager to learn new things till to day ,he moved to join Bryanston country club for his first job as a chef de partie he spent three consecutive years he then joined the opening team for Monte casino and palazzo hotel. Ayanda was eager to go abroad and he left Monte casino and ventured his first career when he joined Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, Miami USA, from Cruise ships he joined Marriot Miami port as sous chef.( French Cuisine Restaurant)
He came back to South Africa after some time from the US to joint Jumeirah Beach hotel in Dubai UAE, and he was privileged to work with top chefs from around the world, Ayanda describe himself working for Jumeirah hotels as his career highlight for what he is to day, he explore the different kinds of cuisines as the hotel has 23 food outlets and the cuisines of the world.
Following his career in Dubai he then joined Habtoor hotel grant resort and spa
where was in leading a banqueting team, from Habtoor he also joined Starwood hotels resort where he worked for Le Meridien and Westin hotels beach resorts as a specialty chef, During his time in Dubai he participated in a lot of cooking competitions where he scooped himself medals that help him to grow his career in cooking and culinary.
He spent couple of years in in Starwood hotels, and he then moved to join The Address hotels, one of the leading new brand hotels in Middle East. Ayanda came back to South Africa to join Hyatt Regency Oubaai in George Western Cape as senior chef de cuisine in charge of main kitchen and banquets, after sometimes moved to Johannesburg where, he became the executive chef for the Emoyeni restaurant, banqueting and conference centre.
Ayanda as chef with full of new ideas and energy, he is doing a lot of things, he currently runs his catering company , TV shows with Soweto TV , Divine food flavours as well as food network channel, a runner-up from chopped SA cooking challenge.
This Vibrant chef now Joined Bertrand Café, Johannesburg the as an executive chef, the objective is to make Bertrand Café to be to the first choice when it comes to dining experience in Johannesburg and nebourhood .
