Commemorations of the Centenary of the Armistice of 11 November 1918
The French community was invited to take part in the celebrations of the centenary of the end of World War I.
The Chargé d’affaires a.i. Emmanuel Suquet, the Defense attaché Olivier Ducret, the Reserve Officer Jean-Baptiste Dabezies and two students of the military school of Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan took part in the Remembrance Day celebrations in Tshwane.
The Consul General of France in Johannesburg, Sonia Doña Pérez, and the Consul General of France in Cape Town, Laurent Amar, also celebrated the centenary of the Armistice of World War I in their towns.
On 12 November, M. Emmanuel Suquet read the President Macron’s speech on the centenary of the Armistice in front of the employees of the Embassy of France in South Africa. All observed a minute of silence and sang the Marseillaise to honour the memory of soldiers and victims of Word War I.
