Death of Hugh Masekela
France salutes the memory of this politically engaged artist.
Hugh Masekela, an anti-apartheid activist and South African jazz legend, died on January 23 in Johannesburg.
We offer our condolences to his loved ones.
While in exile in the United States, he wrote the song “Bring Him Back Home,” calling for the release of Nelson Mandela – whose centennial we celebrate this year – which quickly became the anthem of the anti-apartheid struggle.
