French South African Schneider Electric Center (F’SASEC) [fr]
F’SASEC was set up in partnership with Schneider Electric and the French Ministry of National Education, is hosted in the Vaal University of Technology (Free State).
The center aims to train junior and senior technicians in the fields of electricity, energy and automated systems control, and to this end satisfies the country’s high request for vocational training.
F’SASEC was inaugurated in March 2012 and welcomed its first group of students in September 2012. It offers two training cycles:
- « The foundation of knowledge »: this one-year cycle, specializing in wiring systems in residential and commercial environments, gives students the opportunity to acquire a level equivalent to the French vocational baccalaureate.
- « Professional degree »: to be attended after the previous cycle, this 3-year program offers students training on the automation of systems, followed by industrial and high-powered facilities. Upon completion, they have reached the senior technician level.
Two classes are welcomed every year. With 12 students at first, they are now 24 students since July 2013. All students, coming from disadvantaged areas, are selected on the basis of strong motivation and are granted reduced scholar fees. Scholarships are offered by Schneider Electric and its corporate foundation.
The premises furnished by the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) are equipped with cutting-edge equipment from Schneider Electric. The center is running under the direction of a French professor.
