Fight against climate change: Laurent Fabius participates in the 20th Conference on climate change [fr]
Laurent Fabius, French minister of Foreign affairs and International development, is currently in Lima to participate in the 20th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework on Climate Change.
Fabius said, 3 words lead France’s action: emergency, ambition and hope.
Emergency, first, because scientific analyses and daily observation show that a more and more serious change in climate is caused by greenhouse gases. Sea levels are rising, temperatures are increasing and the number of extreme climatic phenomenons is growing.
The next keyword is ambition. The aim of the Lima conference is to start identifying points of agreement and to define a common method for the contributions each country has to present during the first quarter of 2015.
Hope, finally, particularly because Europe, the United States and China have already made commitments. The Lima conference represents a decisive step towards a universal agreement to fight climate change that will hopefully be undertaken in Paris in December 2015 (CoP21). Fabius and the French delegation will officially launch its preparation in Lima on December 12. France is mobilized for the success of "Paris Climat 2015", which will be the biggest diplomatic conference ever organised in France.
