South Africa and France share the values of liberty, democracy and respect for human rights. Since the rising of South Africa’s democracy, 26 years ago today, our two countries have built a strong relationship rooted in our common values.

«On this very day, our thoughts go to the healthcare workers, lawyers, judges, journalists, teachers, activists, civil servants, all those who fight for us everyday and know the cost of Freedom» said, Aurélien Lechevallier, French Ambassador to South Africa. Facing the great challenges of Covid-19, South Africa and France continue to stand together to promote freedom and democracy.

The French Embassy, through the Civil Society Development Fund (CSDF), is supporting South African organisations to implement projects that seek to strengthen democratic governance and social cohesion through the promotion of human rights and the improvement of local governance and public participation.
