French Minister Matthias Fekl visited Pretoria on November 9 2016.
Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, attached to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, visited Johannesburg and Pretoria, on November 9 2016.
He was accompanied by senior officials from the French Foreign Affairs Department and the French Treasury, together with the French Ambassador for International Investments & CEO of Business France.
In Johannesburg, Minister Fekl opened the “Business meetings” co-organized by the French Counsellors for foreign trade Committee in South Africa and the Johannesburg Business France office, with the support of the French South African Chamber of Commerce.
During his speech, Minister Fekl underlined the necessity to develop French economic presence in the country and pointed out that the recent ratification of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the European Community offers new opportunities for French investors and exporters in Southern Africa markets as well as for South African firms.
M. Hoosen, from the South African Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), made a speech during this meeting and the DTI Investment team discussed with the French Firms’ delegation coming from France with the support of Business France.
Moreover, advocating for a tightening of institutional relationships in several sectors (agroindustry, energy, transports…) Minister Fekl added that Rob Davies and him agreed to organise the next Join Economic Commission in Paris, at the beginning of 2017.
In Pretoria, at a reception hosted by the Embassy of France in South Africa, M. FEKL met with the French and South Africa Business community, South African Senior Officials and the French Ambassadors in the Southern Africa region.
