French Wines and Spirits Rendez-vous in South Africa 2014: modern vintage well noted!
Following Ubifrance-the French Trade Commission’s first successful Vintage delivery in 2013, the 2014 cuvée lived up to expectations. Nine French companies participated in the 2014 event organized around two professional tastings, these were held in the prestigious Saxon Hotel and V&A Hotel on July 8th in Johannesburg and 9th in Cape Town. At the peak of each day, H.E. Ambassador Barbier’s highly anticipated arrival was most welcomed by both the participants and the visitors.
Consisting of a variety of its finest products, the French supply was composed by quality producers and merchants from various regions: Champagne, Cognac, Bordeaux, Loire, Bourgogne, Buzet and Rhône Valley. More than 110 South African professionals benefited from the tastings. All the French participants are currently holding discussions with potential importers in order to form a partnership.
Vintage 2014 also brought some new participants: importers from Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Namibia took part in the tastings and negotiations are under way to export French wines to these countries.
And finally, the organization of master classes was a great success. More than a commercial action, these presentations gave South African professionals opportunity to discover the diversity and subtleties of French products.
