French municipal managers share experience with SA counterparts
On 18 May a delegation of eleven municipal managers, amongst them three executive mayors, representing several of the larger municipalities across South Africa, left for a nine day study tour in France. They will share experiences in the fields of public transportation as well as waste and water management with French municipal managers.
The study tour affords South African officials at municipal level the opportunity to see how France hosts major sporting events, like the 1998 Soccer World Cup and 2007 Rugby World Cup. The delegates will visit the main French metros that hosted matches during those two tournaments to share their experiences and best practice case studies.
The municipal study tour, the sixth of its kind, has been arranged by the French Development Agency (AFD), the Inca Capacity Building Fund and the French Embassy. The Inca Capacity Building Fund was created in 1998 as an initiative by the French Development Agency and Inca (Infrastructure Corporation Ltd). Its main objective is to finance the development of human resources at municipal level in South Africa in order to improve service delivery and development.
