French readers will soon read Zulu novel

Community newspaper Rekord reports on the translation of a IsiZulu novel into French by French author Michel Lafon.

Askiho Ndawo Bakithi (in French On est foutu) is a modern IsiZulu novel by Matthew Mngadi set in townships around Durban in the decade leading to the end of apartheid. It tells the story of a family who were forcefully removed from a ‘dark spot’ in the rural area and are desperately trying to find accommodation in Durban. In their quest for accommodation they meet abusive landlords who take advantage of their despair. This leads to the total disruption of their home and family, ending in violence and death.
