Good France 2017 in South Africa and Lesotho
Following the success of the first and second Goût de France - Good France events in 2015 and 2016, the celebration of French gastronomy celebration will be held again on 21 March 2017 in South Africa and the rest of the world.
Initiated by the French Minister of Foreign affairs and International Development and world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse, Goût de France - Good France showcases the French way of life, regional products, and France as a tourist destination.
Goût de France - Good France is about healthy living: less salt, less sugar, less fat, but still 100% taste. Conservation of our planet and of our natural resources is also at the core of the project – local products, sustainable agriculture and green cooking methods.
Inspired by Auguste Escoffier, who launched the “Dîners d’Épicure” (Epicurean Dinners) initiative in 1912 (the same menu, on the same day, in several world cities, for as many guests as possible), Goût de France / Good France recreates this wonderful idea by involving restaurants around the world.
Over 2000 chefs worldwide will once again pay tribute to the tastes of French cuisine and its emphasis on sharing, by preparing a special menu of recipes inspired by French excellence and traditions. Participating restaurants were invited to design their menu based on the following sequence: aperitif and canapés, starter, main course(s), cheese, dessert(s), French or local wines.
On 21 March, 5 restaurants in South Africa and Lesotho will offer their own Goût de France - Good France menu:
North West: Café La Bonheur (Hartebeespoortdam)
Western Cape: 6 Spin Street (Cape Town)
Lesotho: No. 7 Restaurant (Maseru)
French embassies will also be taking part in the event, hosting dinners in the residences of the French Ambassadors in more than 150 countries.
