Goût de France – Good France launch event
On 6 March 2018, Ambassador of France to South Africa, H.E. Mr. Christophe Farnaud hosted a special food and wine pairing event to launch Good France South Africa.
The exclusive wine tasting of French and South African wines and culinary experience was presented by the world’s best sommelier (1992), Philippe Faure-Brac and French Michelin-star chef Vincent Lucas. The event was attended by representatives of participating restaurants and hotels, social media influencers, foodies, media and friends of the Embassy.
Taking place for the fourth consecutive year, Goût de France / Good France is a celebration of the vitality of French cuisine. The global initiative was inspired by Auguste Escoffier’s Epicurean dinners of the early 1900s – serving the same menu, on the same day, in several world cities, for as many guests as possible.
All around the world, restaurants, chefs and ambassadors will offer French menus in a re-creation of Escoffier’s original idea. This will take place on the 21st of March in France. Good France in South Africa and Lesotho will take place between 19 and 25 March with 22 restaurants taking part to celebrate French gastronomy and French art de vivre.
This year, South Africa was chosen by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, as one of only five countries to host a launch event of this nature – the only African country alongside the UK, the US, Singapore and Mexico.
This year, there is a regional focus on Nouvelle Aquitaine. Read more about the region here.
