Launch of the 2015 European Film Festival [fr]
The launch of the second edition of the European Film Festival in South Africa took place at Cinema Nouveau in Rosebank on May 7 2015.
The festival, entitlted A Woman’s World , showcases 12 films from different countries between 8 and 17 May in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. The selection of films feature female directors, strong female characters or women-related stories.
The festival is co-ordinated by the French Institute of South Africa and organised in partnership with the European Union and other European cultural agencies or embassies in South Africa: the British Council, the Camões Institute, the Goethe-Institut, the Italian Cultural Institute, Wallonie-Bruxelles International and the Embassies of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain.
Ambassador of France to South Africa Elisabeth Barbier attended the launch along with other Ambassadors from European countries. Oscar-winning Polish film Ida was screened in celebration of the opening.
