Lesedi la Batho Career Fair 2017

Deputy Head of Mission Charlotte Montel and Development Cooperation Attaché Lucie Broechler on 10 May 2017 attended the Career Fair 2017 in Mabopane outside Pretoria.

The event, for high school pupils in the area, was hosted by NGO Lesedi la Batho.

The Embassy of France in South Africa has been supporting the NGO through its Civil Society Development Fund and currently supports Lesedi la Batho’s Dream Catcher project, which aims to expose youth to employment opportunities and career guidance.

More than 45 institutions, companies and organisations, including several French companies in South Africa, took part in the event attended by 3000 pupils from 12 different schools in the Mabopane area.

Ms. Montel in her speech said: "It is a great honour for me to welcome you today for the first Mabopane Career Fair and Expo. I hope this will become an annual event that will be continued for years to come. I would like to thank all the partners present today and especially the French companies that have responded to the call of Lesedi La Batho to provide structural support, mentoring and career guidance to learners in Mabopane".

The Embassy, over the past 18 months, partnered with Lesedi la Batho for several events including Mandela Day, International Human Rights Day, International Day of the Girl Child and Take a Girl Child to Work Day.
