Mandela Day 2014 [fr]
Nelson Mandela International day is celebrated all around the world in recognition of the former South African President Nelson Mandela’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.
On this special day, citizens from the world are invited to give 67 minutes of their time to help society’s development.
On Friday 18 July 2014, the employees of the Embassy of France gave more than just 67 minutes for Mandela Day! We helped Child Welfare Tshwane in Eersterust to improve the centre’s living environment by painting walls with bright colors and doing some gardening outside.
Ambassador Barbier participated in the day event and was welcomed by singing children from the community.
For the French Embassy who protects human rights and who works closely with the civil society sector in South Africa, this date is particularly important to share and express our common values with the people of South Africa. During this day, together with the community of Eersterust, we shared the spirit of solidarity that builds bridges and enables people to march towards social change.
