Mandela Day 2016

On 18 July 2016, the Ambassador of France in South Africa and her team went to Mabopane where they did their 67 minutes of goodwill for Mandela Day.

For the past several years, the Embassy of France in South Africa has supported Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July. The Embassy is committed to doing their 67 minutes of goodwill each year.

This year the Embassy and Ambassador of France to South Africa, HE Elisabeth Barbier, have partnered with local NGO Lesedi la Batho (meaning Light for the People) in Mabopane outside Pretoria. Through its Civil Society Development Fund, the Embassy has a long partnership with Lesedi la Batho.

Embassy staff as well as employees of the French network in South Africa, led by Ambassador Barbier, spent the morning of 18 July 2016 at Lesedi la Batho’s office as well as at Setumo-Khiba Secondary School. There, they took part in several activities: gardening, painting, cleaning, cooking; before enjoying lunch with the community of Mabopane.
