Mandie Van der Spuy and Michelle Constant awarded the Order of Arts and Letters

On 28 January 2016, Ambassador of France to South Africa, Elisabeth Barbier, bestowed the award of ’Officier des Arts et des Lettres’ upon Ms Mandie Van der Spuy and the award of ’Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres’ upon Ms Michelle Constant.

Arts consultant Mandie van der Spuy and CEO of Business and Arts South Africa Michelle Constant were just awarded by France’s Ministry of Culture with the distinction of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for their outstanding contribution to the South African creative industries. The Embassy of France in South Africa hosted their ceremony on 28 January 2016, where they were each honored by H.E. Ambassador Elisabeth Barbier with the medallion of the Order of Arts & Letters.

The Order of Arts and Letters is a French decoration of honour established in 1957 and given by the French ministry of Culture. The award is given to recognise significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields, in France and abroad.
There are three levels : knight, officer and commander.

Through their unwavering commitment Michelle and Mandie have demonstrated themselves to be fierce cultural ambassadors who champion the often underestimated value of arts in society and the economy.
