Minister hails Paris’ bid to host World Expo 2025
World Expo 2025 – Presentation of France’s bid – Statement by M. Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs
Paris, 29 September 2017
I pay tribute to the efforts of Pascal Lamy, Chairman of the public interest grouping EXPOFRANCE 2025, Jean-Christophe Fromantin, Chairman of the EXPOFRANCE 2025 Committee, Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region, and Patrick Ollier, President of the Métropole du Grand Paris [Greater Paris Metropolis], as well as all the elected officials and stakeholders involved, to prepare Paris’s bid to host World Expo 2025. The bid was submitted on 28 September to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has supported this bid from the outset. I have asked the diplomatic network to continue to work to promote this project until the final vote to elect the host city takes place in November 2018.
The theme chosen for this expo is “Sharing our Knowledge, Caring for our Planet”, which reflects the priorities of our international action to protect the planet, while 2025 will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Paris climate agreement.
We have strong arguments and undeniable strengths to support our bid to host this major event, which will further enhance our country’s attractiveness one year after hosting the Olympic Games in 2024. The goal is to welcome 40 million tourists to visit this expo./.
