National Civic Remembrance Sunday in Johannesburg

The annual Remembrance Day Service in memory of Armistice Day was held in Johannesburg on Sunday 12 November 2017.

Colonel (Army) Olivier Ducret, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of France and the Consul General of France in Johannesburg, Madame Sonia Doña Perez attended the annual Remembrance Day Service in memory of Armistice Day, held in Johannesburg on Sunday 12 November 2017. The service began with a parade by bands and military veterans, civilian organisations, and the South African Police Service, followed by an inter-faith service and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Remembrance Day honors all South Africans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in wars and conflict, including the struggle for democracy.

The theme this year was the centenary of the sinking of the SS Mendi.
