Signature of an agreement between EDF and the F’SATI
A Partnership Agreement was signed between the major French power utility Électricité de France (EDF), represented by the General Manager of EDF-CIST Centre, Jean-Paul Mairesse, and the French South African Institute of Technology (F’SATI), represented by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Acting Vice-Chancellor Teaching, Learning and Technology, Dr Stanley Mukhola, in the presence of HE Ambassador Barbier.
The signing ceremony was held at TUT (Pretoria) on the 5th of December 2014, and gathered representatives of the Paris Ile-de-France Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the French Embassy, the Department of Science and Technology, the National Research Foundation, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the University of Paris Est-Créteil (UPEC).
The agreement will provide a scholarship to support a South African Master student during his postgraduate studies. The scope of the agreement is not limited to mere financial support, and EDF has also committed to ensure the student’s success by providing him with regular meetings, monitoring and assistance throughout his university studies.
This accord could constitute the first step of a broader scale programme of cooperation that could be implemented between the French company and the F’SATI, where 126 students are enrolled in the Master programme - a figure that should double by 2020.
