Opening of the first African symposium on the 4 per 1000 initiative

On the 24 October 2018, the Ambassador of France opened in Johannesburg the first African symposium on the 4 per 1000 initiative (www.4p1000.org), in the presence of Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, Executive Secretary of NEPAD.

The symposium brought together more than 120 participants from different countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

The 4 per 1000 initiative was launched at the Paris Climate Conference in 2015. It aims to promote more soil-friendly farming practices and to improve carbon retention in soils. 280 partners (States, international institutions, NGOs..) have already joined the 4 per 1000 initiative.
