President congratulates UNESCO’s new French leader
Paris, 10 November 2017
The President congratulated Audrey Azoulay, who has been elected Director-General of UNESCO. He renewed his confidence in and support for her and wished her every success in carrying out her mandate.
The President has every confidence in Audrey Azoulay to provide UNESCO with the means to fulfil its essential missions faced with the challenges of our time: access to education, culture and science for everyone, the protection of world heritage and safeguarding of our planet.
In a world experiencing violent conflicts and the rise of obscurantism, the protection of our common goods, emancipation through knowledge, the sharing of universal and humanist principles and the unceasing quest for peace are more necessary than ever./.
