Signature of an agreement on scholar DELF in Lesotho [fr]

During her two-day visit in Lesotho, Ambassador Barbier dedicated a day to cooperation for French language.

The highlight of the day was the signature of the agreement on scholar DELF with the Ministry of Education & Training (MoET). Around 30 high representatives were present and the signature was broadcasted on national television on Friday night.

This agreement will allow secondary school Basotho pupils studying French to validate their level passing a standardized language proficiency exam, designed by the French ministry of education in regards to international standards. This exam is already used in more than 30 educational systems abroad.

The signature of this agreement is the final step of a pilot project started in 2008 at the MoET’s request, targeting 11 schools offering French lessons to 5000 students from Form A to Form E.
Thanks to this agreement, new schools will be encouraged to offer French lessons to their students.

Following the signature, Ambassador Barbier visited one of the 11 pilot schools, College Thetsane. A reception was hosted for her by the pupils studying French, with songs, poems and allocutions in French.
The Ambassador ended the day at the Alliance Française of Maseru attending the DELF diploma ceremony for the 29 students who passed the last exam session.
