Soccer boots for the grassroots from France

On 30 October 2010 Altus Sport in partnership with French Railway Workers’ Committee of South-Eastern France (Comité d’entreprise des Cheminots de la région PACA), the French NGO “Secours Populaire” and the French Embassy are hosting a Sport Fun Day at the Zonkesiswe community soccer field in the south of Johannesburg.

A group of 100 youth around the Sonkesiswe township will join 50 French youths to participate in an exciting fun filled day of sport. Altus Sport will be supported by local NGO’s Ekupholeni dealing with HIV and the Ayobayo Youth Soccer Academy in Katlehong.

The activities will include a variety of sport and educational games wrapping up the day with the hand-out of new pairs of soccer boots.

A sum of 13 000 pairs of soccer boots with a total value of nearly a three quarter million rand were donated by the French Railway Workers’ Committee of South-Eastern France (Comité d’entreprise des Cheminots de la région PACA) and shipped to South Africa. These boots will also be distributed to other disadvantaged regions in South Africa.

Altus Sport, a Pretoria based NGO-NPO was approached by the French Embassy and the French Railway Workers’ Committee of South-Eastern France to facilitate this initiative for the further development of soccer in the disadvantaged communities. Additionally the aim is to foster and strengthen relationships that exist between France and South Africa.
