THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC’S LETTER TO NELSON MANDELA FOR HIS 92ND BIRTHDAY
Paris, 17 July 2010
Dear Mr President,
I am extremely pleased and honoured to wish you a very happy birthday.
My wife and I were delighted to share some time with you during our meeting in January 2008, and a year ago to the day we were immensely proud to attend the concert held by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in New York for causes that you hold dear and which we fully support.
I must congratulate you on the exceptional Football World Cup which has just taken place in South Africa. The fine values relating to fraternity and exalted at such sporting events have their source in the example you have set all your life in your tireless struggle to redress the inequalities inherited from the past and strengthen human rights.
Please allow me, as I extend my best wishes to you for good health, to once again express my heartfelt emotion following the tragedy that has struck your family.
Please accept, Mr President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
His Excellency Nelson Mandela
Former President of the Republic of South Africa
