In the framework of its cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training of Lesotho (MOET), the French Embassy in South Africa and in Lesotho and the Alliance Française of Maseru invited three officials of this Ministry to visit France between the 6th and the 10th of June 2016 in order to attend institutional meetings and a presentation on the policy and teaching of foreign languages.
The aim of the visit was to enhance and promote the learning of French language in Lesotho by creating sectors of excellence in French, in the country’s secondary schools.
Mrs. KOLOTSANE, Principal Secretary of the MOET, Mrs. SEUTLOALI, Chief Education Officer – Curriculum and Assessment at the MOET and Mrs NTOI, Registrar/ chief executive at the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECOL) met several experts on educational teaching of foreign languages at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, at the International Center for Pedagogic Studies (CIEP) and at the French Institute.
During their encounters, they were presented with the different implementation stages (from teachers’ training to certification) of a reinforcement teaching program for foreign languages.
The delegation, then, visited the Jeannine Manuel school, known for its successful bilingual approach (French and English) and for giving students the opportunity to reach a high level of proficiency in both languages.
Following the visit, the Ministry of Education and Training of Lesotho, the French Embassy in South Africa and in Lesotho and the Alliance Française of Maseru will endeavour to launch in February 2017 a pilot project aimed at implementing sectors of excellence in French.
