What is French development assistance for?
What is French development assistance for? What has it achieved concretely in the countries of the South?
These are simple questions French citizens ask themselves when surveyed. It turns out that 78% of French citizens would like more information on French development assistance. Information we also owe to its recipients. France’s contribution amounts to almost 10% of global Official Development Assistance (ODA) and this animation produced by the French Foreign Ministry highlights examples of developments in a variety of sectors including education, health and access to water.
At a time when hundreds of thousands of voluntary workers, students, families and associations throughout France are going to participate in the 16th Week for International Solidarity organized nationwide by international solidarity associations, I am pleased to present a number of useful reference points about the marshalling of ODA.
Too few French people know that France is the leading health donor per capita and that France furthers development in more than 100 countries worldwide. The French can be proud of this policy of solidarity with the world’s poorer countries.
